Intersection Crash Kills Motorcyclist in Tennessee
A motorcyclist is dead after a tragic accident in Tennessee. Police recently released more information about the accident, although the investigation remains ongoing.
According to the most recent reports, the wreck happened where Hamill Road intersects with Highway 153. A motorist pulled up to the intersection and stopped to wait for the traffic to pass. That vehicle was facing the cars in the southbound lanes, but the woman behind the wheel was waiting for the northbound traffic to get through the intersection.
When she thought it was clear, she drove forward through the break in the cars. However, she later said to the police that she was already in the road when she spotted the motorcycle behind the other traffic in the northbound lanes. She claimed she had no time to stop before striking the motorcyclist. The man riding the bike was 26. The impact tossed him off his motorcycle and onto the road.
The Hamilton County EMS responded to the scene, along with the Chattanooga Police Department. They determined that the young man died at the scene.
This story illustrates a significant and common danger that motorcyclists face. Other drivers often do not see their small bikes because they are used to looking for full-sized cars and trucks. A lot of accidents happen when drivers pull out in front of motorcycles or turn across the lane in front of the approaching bikers. These impacts are often lethal.
